the brow

 experience

To give you a good idea of what Microblading entails please read the FAQ below. When receiving semi permanent makeup it is important to be thoroughly educated and to do  your own research best you can.

What is microblading?

Microblading also known as cosmetic tattoo, micropigmentation, or semi permanent make up is the process of depositing colour into the dermal layer of your skin using a tiny sterile disposable needle to create the illusion of natural brow hairs.

does it hurt?

A highly effective topical anesthetic will be applied prior and during our session.  Some have described the feeling as hair being tweezed and others have felt absolutely nothing.  Pain threshold varies individually.  I make every effort to make your experience as comfortable as possible.

is this safe during pregnancy?

As a Precaution, I do not offer microblading to clients during pregnancy and while breastfeeding.

How long is the session?

Microblading takes about 2-3 hours.  The numbing process is 30 minutes followed by brow shaping which takes about 30 minutes as well.  The actual pigment implantation takes about 1-1.5 hr depending on design.

How long will it last?

Microblading is semi-permanent and will not wash off, however, it will fade over time and may need to be touched up every 1-2 years.  Frequency of sessions depends on a number of factors including: the pigment colour used (lighter colours fade faster), improper after care, sun exposure, body chemistry and if any chemical peels come into contact with treated areas. Please note that final results CAN NOT be guaranteed as each unique skintype will hold pigments differently and break down at different rates. We will re-evaluate how your skin has received the pigment at your second session and make any changes necessary. Multiple sessions are normal for micro pigmentation.  Your second session can be booked no sooner than 6-8 weeks  after the initial appointment.  Previously tattooed areas will generally always require additional appointments

how many sessions will i need ?

Most clients only require 2 sessions around 6-8 weeks apart.  With most procedures the colour will lighten 20-50%.  Some clients prefer this while others desire a bolder look.  At our 2nd session we will examine how the brows have healed and make any adjustments needed.

how is the healing process?

Immediately following our session, you may or may not notice some minimal redness and swelling.  This will disappear after a couple of hours.  Your brows will look darker and more intense than expected but will lighten as they heal.  If you experienced heavier bleeding than normal, you will also notice some scabbing. (Do not pick the scabs)

what should i do before my appointment?

If you regularly get your brows shaped, waxed, threaded or tinted, please do so at least 7 days before your appointment.
If you plan to go on a vacation, it is recommended to plan your trip a minimum of 14 days after the procedure.
We require clients to avoid any blood thinning medication for a minimum of 2-3 days prior to our appointment. This includes Vitamin E, Aspirin, Niacin, fish oil supplements, and Ibuprofen.
DO NOT drink any alcohol the night before and day of your appointment and please limit caffeine intake.
If you have been on prescription Accutane in the past, you MUST wait at least one year before considering this procedure as your skin may scar!
We recommend that you avoice SUN and TANNING BEDS  for 30 days BEFORE and AFTER your session. If you arrive to our session with a sunburn, we will have to reschedule and you will lose your deposit.   As your skin exfoliates from a sunburn, it will take the pigment with it.

How will my brows look after it has healed?

Everyone heals differently and must stress again here that micro pigmentation cannot be 100 % guaranteed.  The majority of clients brows will stay true to colour and lighten over time fading completely eventually.   In general,  for oily skin types the strokes will look "powdery" when completely healed.  For those with small pores and "drier' skin the strokes look more crisp.  There are some cases where the strokes do not retain at all (those low in iron in their blood).

Is the equipment safe?

YES!! Everything I use is single use, sterile and disposable.  This means each set up for our client is discarded safely afterwards and work station is disinfected with hospital grade disinfectant.

what is after care like?

After your procedure you  may feel some tenderness or something similar to a sun burn for the next day or so.  You may take tylenol to minimize the discomfort if you like.

Here are some do's and don'ts to follow:

  • You may shower or bathe but do NOT get shampoo or soap on the brows for at least a week if possible.  As the pigment is still settling into the skin the chemicals from cleansers will affect the bonding process.

  • Do NOT TOUCH it with unwashed fingers

  • Do not pick or scratch at the dry flaky skin or scabbing. This will cause the pigment to fall out with the skin prematurely.  As the skin regenerates the strokes may look like they have disappeared but may reappear in a couple of weeks once the skin is fully healed.

  • Do not apply ANY type of skin care products on the brows during the healing process. (6-8 weeks)

  • Only apply the Vit A+D ointment given to you (nothing else) WITH CLEAN washed hands or clean Q tip (organic coconut oil is ok too)

  • Do not thread, wax, dye, tint or bleach the brows for 8 weeks

  • Do not apply make up on the brows for at least 2 weeks (if you choose to apply makeup to the brows, you do so at your own risk of causing infections)

  • Do not go swimming, sit in a jacuzzi or steam room for at least 2 weeks. Chlorine may bleach the pigment causing it to distort in colour.

  • Do not immerse your face in water or spray your face in the shower for 7-10 days

  • Do not expose the area to sun during the healing process. After the brows have healed apply sunscreen on them to prevent the brows from fading

  • Do not do laser , IPL, microdermabrasion or chemical peels near the brows! Laser can cause the pigment to migrate

  • Smoking will cause the pigment to fade sooner
